Ersilia Leonini lives and works in Florence where she was born. She graduated from the Art Institute of Siena and attends the University Department of Letters following the courses of art history, cinema and theatre. He graduated in photography at the Centro Studi Tecnico-cinematografici in Florence.
In the 1978 exposes in his first personal painting with an abstract “hyperfantastic”, colors and shapes in strict geometric compositions, in opposition to hyperrealism in those years. In the ’80s he opened in Siena a workshop for the creation of artistic masks that will become over time real sculptures and the will take on tours in various cities of the U.S. In the 90s he moved to San
Gimignano where he began to work on a material painting exposing in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad. It is only in 2005 that, in a sort of reverse path. t leads to a realism that investigates the figure where what is laid bare is well more than the body: a tormented and restless inner world inoften disorienting. Since 2011, an impressive painting commission for a private collection that often leads her to work in Paris.
The human figure is recreated by Leonini with objectivity, through a brushstroke nervous and descriptive; his characters face the viewer in the open Displacing the expectations, thus giving check to the moralists of aestheticism: more than offering to contemplation they attack our gaze.
