Costagliola has proven over time, despite his young age, to be a master in portraying the most dynamic human movements, capturing the perfect moment and providing the viewer with the right dose of anxiety that leads to unconsciousness, as if it were a single frame of an “action movies”.
His sculptures are the result of a personal research, made of experiments, mistakes and second thoughts. A particular feature of his talent is his strong bond with nature, which emphasizes the idea of beauty. The choice of materials such as terracotta, iron and wood comes from a personal taste of the artist, careful to the economic problems of the world. By recycling noble materials, these are brought back to life creating a genuine overview, which cuts with his early works, like the bronze patios that he has now come to reject.
In Alessandro Costagliola’s work, beauty is the promoter of the disproportionate and the not precise, although remaining linked, in the overall view, to the classical canons. His men are always portrayed bold, to emphasize their perfection. However, it is not a representation of anatomical perfection, but of a strong and dynamic beauty seen through unique shapes placed in the continuity of space. Costagliola aims continually at giving meaning to action, criticizing the classical sculpture linked to static and pose. In his work, order and form are presented beyond a conventional frontier that seemed impassable, and this gives hope for a less distant and conflictual relationship between man and nature.
The terracotta figures created by Alessandro embody strength, finesse and movement. Being one of the oldest materials, the terracotta perfectly fits the artist’s vision of an art form full of life and emotion. Each piece is carefully crafted by hand and features a remarkable level of detail that brings each figure to life. These works add a charged atmosphere of emotions to any space, becoming part of the architectural fabric. Taking it to the limit muscular tension of his characters, Costagliola creates sculptures that seem to move and live in your own space. Terracotta allows him to mix strength and finesse to achieve this unique effect and make his sculptures seem alive.
Visitors to the boutique hotel which houses the Costagliola exhibition will live an experience completely new, surrounded by his sculptures and the beauty of natural materials.
