Unìco is just a few meters from the sea in the resort town of Mondello, old fishing village, today the favorite beach of Palermo, famous for its fine sand and crystal clear water. The hotel overlooks the sea from its terraces, the entire Gulf, giving you a breathtaking view. The beach is populated by nice cold-drinks kiosks, street food and beaches equipped for those who have the desire to spend a relaxing day at sea. Not to mention that from the “happy hour” to late night, the waterfront of Mondello becomes a stage rich of music and events dedicated to nightlife.
The Addaura offers a rugged cliff, surrounded by greenery, at the foot of Mount Pellegrino. Access to the sea here is not of the easiest, but the spectacle it offers is breathtaking both on the surface and underwater. The depths of this stretch of coast are, in fact, loved by the diving fans. The depths of this stretch of coast are, in fact, much loved by diving enthusiasts.
ORIENTED NATURE RESERVE OF CAPO GALLO
The reserve covers an area of almost 586 hectares and consists essentially of Monte Gallo. This ends in a promontory, called Capo Gallo, on which there is a lighthouse which indicates its position. The promontory is located in the north-western area of Palermo and separates the two gulfs of Mondello and Sferracavallo, which host the homonymous seaside districts of the city. The coastal side of the Capo Gallo Reserve extends from the cape of the same name westward up to Punta Barcarello and, given the karst nature of the rocks, the sea has shaped them into the most bizarre shapes, forming a series of fascinating caves, such as the Grotta dell’ oil that is somewhat reminiscent of the very famous Blue Grotto of Capri. In ancient times these caves were inhabited by man and in some of them prehistoric graffiti and other archaeological finds of considerable importance have been found. To access a large part of the reserve, a marine landing is necessary, given that the land connections that depart from the two seaside villages do not meet. The easiest places to reach are often crowded in the summer season due to their proximity to the sea and the entire reserve is placed under the supervision of the park’s naturalistic guards who monitor compliance with the regulations by tourists and bathers.
BARCARELLO
On the north coast of the gulf is the Baia del Corallo which has rocks and slides while on the south side is Barcarello, a typical example of a coral reef, made up of the accumulation of organisms that gave life to this rock mass. Furthermore, it is precisely from Barcarello that the road that leads from the eastern side to Monte Gallo starts, up to the lighthouse. Inserted in a characteristic fishing village full of fish restaurants, the Barcarello beach in Sferracavallo is located in one of the most beautiful and old seaside villages of western Sicily, a destination for many vacationers and tourists and easily accessible from the city. Numerous bathing establishments are concentrated along the beach, alternating with free bathing spaces.
A tour by boat or rubber dinghy organized by the Unìco Staff will allow you to discover the Palermo coast between pebble coves, soft sand and rocky headlands and to enjoy a day.
